“Visiting the Danakil Depression is a real expedition. The sometimes very rough roads are leading into hot and dusty area. The Danakil desert is famous for Erta Ale, one of the world´s few active volcanoes constantly hosting a boiling lava lake and the surreal landscapes of colors, salt, geysers, springs and fumaroles at the hydrothermal fields of Dallol. At quite short (5 days) notice I was able to do an excellent 9 day trip from Addis Ababa via Mekele to Danakil, organized be Zelalem Tours.”
